Neilson Park Creative Centre (NPCC) is excited to announce funding from the Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility’s Seniors’ Provincial Grant. Through this grant, NPCC will be offering a third iteration of its highly successful Sing! Etobicoke program.
This year’s program Sing Etobicoke, Bravo! will continue to offer free space for seniors to sing together, find community, and forge new connections.
This free program will consist of twenty choral workshops with the NPCC community, as well as the Graceview Presbyterian Church’s membership, and the Fellowship Church and its congregation. The program kicks off its first 10 sessions on October 7, 2024, taking place every Monday from 9:30am to 11:30am until December 16. An additional 10 sessions will run from January 6 to March 17, 2025.
The program will be held on a rotating basis between three venues: Neilson Park Creative Centre, 56 Neilson Drive, Etobicoke Graceview Presbyterian Church 588 Renforth Drive, Etobicoke Fellowship Christian Reformed Church, 800 Burnhamthorpe Road, Etobicoke Led by a team of professional and emerging music instructors, each session in this weekly singing series will include a structured offering of vocal-warmups and an exploration of new and familiar music curated for each session.
After each singing session, there will be an informal social reception with refreshments provided by the organizers and a few activities to promote a strong sense of community amongst the group.
All are welcome at these fun and pressure-free sessions regardless of vocal range or expertise. There will be no audition process, but instead an open acceptance policy. Stronger singers will be encouraged to take on additional roles such as singing harmony parts, though this is by no means required and is entirely subject to comfort levels. Those seeking to join are encouraged to register for one, more, or all of the sessions!
Singing is a joyful activity and the exercise of doing that together in a group can provide a strong sense of physical community. 98% of survey participants from last year’s sessions agreed that singing supported their mental wellness and general well-being.
Please note that each of the three venues have reliable climate control and environmental standards to ensure participants feel safe and comfortable in these spaces.
