Ephesians 4:1–3, 29–32 & Colossians 3:12–14
People come into the church with different personalities, backgrounds, and perspectives, and because of that, differences are inevitable—sometimes even leading to tension or misunderstanding. Yet because Christ is risen, we are called not to withdraw from one another, but to live together as a family held together by Jesus, reflecting His grace in how we remain, love, and extend grace to one another—even when differences make it difficult.
1. Unity Is a Calling We Must Guard
(Ephesians 4:1–3)
- The church is a family in Christ, not a gathering of like-minded people
- Differences are real and can lead to tension
- Unity requires humility, patience, and intentional effort
2. Grace Shapes How We Respond to Hurt and Offence
(Ephesians 4:29–32)
- Being offended is natural—but how we respond is spiritual
- Our words and reactions can build up or tear down
- We are called to respond with kindness, forgiveness, and grace
3. Christ Is Our Example
(Colossians 3:12–14)
- Jesus was the most misunderstood and rejected
- Yet He responded with mercy, not bitterness
- We forgive as Christ forgave us
4. When We Are Hurt: Practical Steps
- Pause — Resist reacting immediately.
- Pray — Bring your feelings honestly to God.
- Discern — Ask whether to address it or release it.
- Seek peace — Step toward reconciliation with humility.
