May 21, 2025 I am one who loves the Spring Season. I rejoice in the appearance of buds on the trees, in my perennials poking their heads from beneath the earth and in the grass getting greener and greener with each rainfall. I had work done on a small garden in my front yard and was very pleased with the end result. It is now a fertile, raised flower bed where my hostas and standard hydrangea’s roots have lots of…

Download the PDF Acts 11:1-18 narrates Peter’s defense to the Jerusalem church regarding his actions towards Gentiles, particularly the baptism of Cornelius and his household in Caesarea Maritima. Peter recounts the vision he had in Joppa (Acts 10) where he was commanded to eat unclean foods, symbolizing that God was removing the distinction between Jews and Gentiles. He explains that the Holy Spirit fell upon the Gentiles, just as it did on Jews, demonstrating God’s acceptance of them. This event was met with initial…
One Bible Prayer to Help You Get Through Doubt
Bob Hostetler When your faith is flagging, these eight words can reconnect you with God. Do you wish you had more faith? Less doubt? If you’re anything like me, you have my sympathy. In those moments of doubt your faith may flee, you may question nearly everything and feel as if you’re holding onto faith by a thread. And that’s exactly when prayer can seem harder than usual. We might wish for some kind of treatment or trick that will…

Download the PDF John 15:9-17 emphasizes the importance of loving one another as Jesus loved them, highlighting this as a key aspect of discipleship and a source of abundant joy. It also underscores the concept of Jesus choosing his disciples for a specific purpose, to “go and bear fruit,” and the promise that their prayers, made in Jesus’ name, will be answered. Here’s a more detailed breakdown: Jesus commands his followers to love one another, mirroring the love he has for them,…

Download the PDF here Apr. 30, 2025The Second Sunday after Easter, also known as Divine Mercy Sunday in the Roman Rite, is a day of celebration and reflection within the broader context of Easter. It’s the concluding day of the Easter Octave, marking the end of the eight-day period celebrating Jesus’ resurrection. Minister’s Message
This was my second time returning to Guatemala for a mission trip, with my first being in 2019. Though the destination was the same, the journey felt fresh, stirring, and deeply personal in new ways. One thing that stood out right from the beginning was the rare…

Hymn Stories: The Church’s One Foundation
Adapted from 101 Hymn Stories – Kenneth W. Osbeck Author – Samuel J. Stone Composer – Samuel S. Wesley 1810-1876 The Church’s one foundation is Jesus Christ her Lord, She is His new creation by water and the Word; From heav’n He came and sought her to be His holy bride; With His own blood He bought her, and for her life He died. This magnificent hymn was written in 1866 by Church of England pastor Samuel J. Stone, as…
Presbyterianism Through the Eyes of Lucy Maud Montgomery
few months ago, I was tidying up a bookcase in my home that is dedicated to all the beloved and much-read books of my childhood and youth, books that should have long ago been passed down to my nieces or my grandnieces but that I have never been able to part with. One shelf holds the eight novels that make up the Anne of Green Gables series, authored by Prince Edward Island’s most famous Presbyterian, Lucy Maud Montgomery. A ragged,…
The Mouse Story
by Helen Jamieson (An article submitted to the January 2007 issue of Graceviews by our dear departed, fondly remembered friend and fellow congregant Helen Jamieson. I thought it especially appropriate given the times we live in.) A mouse looked through the crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife opening a package. “What food might this contain?” wondered the mouse. He was devastated to discover that it was a mousetrap. Retreating to the barnyard, the mouse proclaimed…
