We are firmly into the swing of things at Graceview. Activities have begun and on some days the church is humming with activity. Tuesdays are particularly busy with Bible Study, Elaine’s Craft Club, Session meetings, and coming this October, Sing! Etobicoke. The only Tuesday activity that was missing was the Walking group which is on an indefinite hiatus. Hopefully, this will return in the warmer weather. Today at Bible study we again were about 14 in number. Discussions were lively and for me, some biblical questions that I have had for many years were finally answered. Afterwards, 4 of us stayed behind to decorate the church in fall colours. That took no time at all but was most satisfying to gaze upon our accomplishments.
I would like to speak a little bit about my dear 4-year-old neighbour Giulietta who has been treated this past year for neuroblastoma. What this tiny tot has had to endure is above all understanding, but thankfully she has come out the other side and is now at home with her family. She has even begun to attend daycare with her twin sister. Nothing makes me happier than to walk my dog past their house and to hear the tap, tap on the window of their living room. I look up and there are 2 adorable munchkins waving at me and blowing me kisses. It does my heart good to see this and to know that God has taken this dear child under his arm and guided her safely through the tests and surgeries and medications that she has had to endure.
If any of you have a heartwarming story about yourself or someone you know, please send it to me and I would be delighted to share your story of faith, determination and power of love and prayer. We all have THAT story. I look forward to hearing from you.

Devotional Box – To be or not to be?
The Devotional Box on the front porch of the church has been in place since 2020. It began during COVID as a means to distribute physical support (cloth masks supplied by the Graceview Masked Maker) and spiritual support (various devotionals, Graceviews, Presbyterian Connection and other publications) to our church family and to our community.
I believe it has served its purpose and should now be retired. However, if you or someone you know still relies on the Devotional Box to pick up devotionals etc., please let me know and finding a sturdier container for these materials will be investigated. Thank you.

Walking Group
As was announced in church, the walking group has disbanded. This does not mean that you cannot partake of a lovely stroll in Centennial Park, but the church is no longer implementing this activity. It seems people are either too busy or just not as “gung-ho” as they used to be. Who knows, we may decide to resurrect this as a church activity once the weather gets warmer again. To all those walkers and puppies who participated in the past, thank you for joining us in some lovely walks and lunches that followed. The fellowship was the best part.

Coffee/Tea Sign Up
It is time again to volunteer for coffee/tea service after worship services. The sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board in the Adamson Lounge. September is already full, but there are plenty of spots left for the remainder of the year. If you can, please sign up for multiple dates, so that we are not left short at the last minute.

Thanksgiving Food Drive
Outreach is organizing a food/cash drive for the St James Food Basket to provide them with selected food products for their client families. The following items have been suggested: canned tomatoes, canned tomato paste, tuna, canned beans (e.g. chickpeas), and 1-pound (454 grams) packages of pasta (not in boxes). We will put a large tote bin at the front of the church beginning on Sept 27th to hold your items. If you prefer, you can make a cash donation (cash, cheque or e-transfer) which will be used to buy these items in bulk by the Food Basket. Please mark your donation for the Outreach account, Food Drive, and include your envelope number. Let’s aim to fill the bin to overflowing by Sunday, October 18th and share our blessings with those who are struggling to make ends meet.
Kento’s New Musical!!
Kento has created a new musical entitled REIMU which is a modern reimagining of the Japanese folk legend, Snow Woman. The world premiere will take place on Friday, October 16(evening) and Sunday, October 18 (matinee) at the Array Space Studio (155 Walnut Avenue). Here is the link for more information. A Taste of Italy Dinner
Outreach plans to host a dinner on Friday, October 16th at 6 pm in the downstairs hall. It will feature an Italian themed dinner and will be prepared for us by Chef Keith and the students in the culinary program at Thistletown Collegiate. Ticket prices are $30 and all proceeds from the dinner will go to the Thistletown Euro Trip to Italy which will take place during the 2027 March Break. Please save this date on your calendar! Tickets can be purchased from Jean Ross, after service.
Common Scents
Please be advised that our church has a scent-free protocol. It seems that some of our dear parishioners feel unwell due to heavy floral smells. Please be considerate of those in our congregation who are affected by strong smells and odors and refrain from perfumes or colognes when coming to worship on Sunday mornings. Thank you one and all.
Sing! Etobicoke
Mark your calendars: Sing Etobicoke returns on October 20!
Notice that sessions are now on Tuesdays
New this year: no more registering ahead of time! Sing Etobicoke is now fully drop-in. If you feel like singing, just show up to whichever weekly session works for you. Come every week, come once in a while, however it fits into your life. Please do remember to continue to sign in.
Also, I’m happy 🙂 to report that Kento, Carol and Toia are all returning to make this our best Sing Etobicoke year ever. As always, it’s completely free and open to everyone in the community, so bring a friend or neighbour along if you’d like.
We’ve missed our Sing Etobicoke community, and we’re so glad you’ll be raising your voices with us again this year. See you on October 20!
