Apr. 16, 2025
As we enter Holy Week let us all remember the sacrifices that our Lord made. There are 3 major events here at Graceview. Maundy Thursday will see the church set up for the Stations of the Cross. From 2- 4 you are welcome to come in and follow the stations as you reflect on the events as they unfolded. Good Friday will commence with our traditional Hot Cross Bun breakfast followed by our worship service which will include communion by intinction. Easter Sunday will celebrate the risen Lord as we ponder the miracle or the resurrection.
Holy Week offers a powerful opportunity for reflection on the suffering and sacrifice of Jesus Christ, ultimately culminating in the hope of resurrection. It’s a time to consider the events of the Passion, from Palm Sunday to Good Friday, and to unite personal struggles with Christ’s journey. This week is also a chance to reflect on the meaning of love, service, and the transformative power of God’s grace.
Key Reflections during Holy Week:
- The Passion of Christ:
Consider the events of the last week of Jesus’ life, from his triumphant entry into Jerusalem to his crucifixion. Meditate on the suffering, rejection, and ultimately, the selfless sacrifice of Jesus.
- Uniting with Christ’s Suffering:
Recognize that we all face our own crosses and challenges, and that by uniting our suffering with Christ’s, we find redemption and hope.
- The Power of Love and Sacrifice:
Reflect on the depth of God’s love, as demonstrated by Jesus’ willingness to sacrifice himself for humanity.
- The Hope of Resurrection:
Remember that the death of Jesus is not the end, but the beginning of a new life through the resurrection. Easter Sunday marks the triumph of life over death and the promise of eternal life with God.
- Renewing Faith and Devotion:
Holy Week is a time to strengthen faith, deepen devotion, and recommit to living in accordance with Christ’s teachings.
- Practical Acts of Service:
Make Holy Week a time to reach out to others, show compassion, and offer practical help to those in need.
- Personal Transformation:
Let the events of Holy Week inspire you to reflect on your own life, to examine your motives, and to strive for greater holiness.

Good Friday Hot Cross Bun Breakfast
Outreach will be hosting a Hot Cross Bun Breakfast on Good Friday, April 18th at 9:30 am. There is a sign-up sheet posted on the bulletin board in the foyer. Please let us know if you will be attending so that we will have lots of food available. If you will not be at church this Sunday and would like to attend the breakfast, please call Sheila Thomas at 416-948-7140 so that your name can be added to the list. We hope to see many of you on Good Friday morning.
Mission Awareness Sunday
This is a reminder that April 27th is Mission Awareness Sunday. The mission committee will share what it’s been doing and will give an in-depth presentation on all the exciting, wonderful things that happened in Guatemala back in March. This team has put a lot of thought and effort into planning this service. You won’t want to miss it!
Loonies for Lent
This year Outreach is asking you to set aside loonies and toonies or other monetary donations in order that we may send a large donation to the St James Food Basket. The money that we send will be spent on such basics as tuna, canned tomatoes, tomato paste and vegetable soup which will be distributed to their client families. Each year the number of people who rely on food banks continues to grow and the uncertain times that we are currently living in will only further increase this need. Outreach is asking our members to send their monetary donations to the church (loonies/toonies in containers, cash, cheques or e-transfers) to support this initiative. Please mark your envelopes for “Loonies for Lent, Outreach” and include your name and envelope number. We would appreciate receiving your contributions by April 20th.

WEEKLY GIGGLE
The Sunday School teacher was just finishing a lesson on honesty. “Do you know where children go if they don’t put their money in the collection plate?” the teacher asked.
“Yes ma’am,” a boy blurted out. “They go to the movies.”
